End of Build Learning Stage

In Room 6 we have finished our Build Learning Stage to our Antarctica learning. During this stage we discovered lots of new things about Antarctica and about the animals that live there.
To show what we learnt the children wrote a small factual piece of writing which was recorded onto the Ipad and then made into a movie.

Check out what we all learnt.

Grass Heads

To celebrate the first week of Spring, Room 6 made some "grass heads" that we are going to watch grow over the season.
At the moment we are bald! We know that to grow some "hair" (grass) we need to give the seeds soil, water and sunlight.

Watch this blog to see the progress our grass makes over Spring!

Sharing our Maths Learning

In maths, we have been learning to share our learning in a variety of ways and use lots of different materials to help solve the problems.

Here, Kory shares how he solved this problem. He had 4 lollipops and then went and bought 3 more lollipops. How many do you have altogether?

I am trying to encourage the children to share through maths talk.

Red and Black Day

On Tuesday 2 September 2014, South Hornby School participated in a Christchurch Red and Black Day where we were selected along with 19 other schools to show our support. Two Canterbury players, Matt Symons and Sione Faletau came to judge the best dressed and decorated class at our school. Room 12 won and now get to go watch the Captains Run next week. How exciting, well done Room 12, your classroom looked awesome!

Check out how awesome we look in Room 6.
